Taking the ACT...

What is the ACT?

The American College Test (ACT) is a U.S. college examination that consists of subject area tests in English, Math, Reading and Science. The ACT + Writing consists of the four subject areas plus a 30-minute Writing Test. Just like the SAT, the ACT is accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. Students can take either the SAT or the ACT, or they may choose to take both, and report the highest scores to unviersities. It is important to keep in mind, however, that both test measure similar skills, so there is a high degree of correlation between the two tests (e.g. a student who score in the average range on the SAT will likely earn an average score on the ACT). Neither test is "easier".

Where can I take the ACT?

SCIS Hongqiao is an ACT test center, and Pudong students are welcome to take it there.

When can I take the ACT?

SCIS Hongqiao offers the ACT+Writing twice per year - in October and April, so if you plan to take the ACT instead of the SAT, keep in mind that there are fewer opportunities to retake this exam.

How can I sign up?

You can register online at actstudent.org.
